Equality Objectives

The Equality Act was published in 2010 to ensure protection from discrimination, harassment and victimisation on the grounds of a person’s characteristics.  There are nine identified characteristics known as protected characteristics.  These are; Age, Disability, Gender Reassignment, Marriage and Civil Partnership, Pregnancy and Maternity, Race, Religion and Belief, Sex and Sexual Orientation.

Under the Equality Act, we as a school are expected to comply with the Public Sector Equality Duty (PESD) so that we:

  • Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation and other conduct prohibited by the Act.
  • Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not.
  • Foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not.

As a public organisation we are also required to:

  • Have due regard to the PESD when making decisions, taking action or developing our policies and practices.
  • Publish information to show compliance with the Equality Duty which is done in each policy.
  • Publish Equality Objectives which are specific and measurable.

We as a school are committed to creating an environment where each individual experiences an equality of opportunity and where no pupil or family is left behind, or any member of staff left unsupported.
